A Kogi State advocacy group has tackled Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration of not doing enough in the state despite increased federal revenue allocation.
The group, The Movement for the Emancipation of Kogi State (MEKSTA), also questioned the governor’s link to the ongoing corruption trials of his predecessor.
MEKSTA, in a statement signed by Hon Obafemi Medaiyese, raised concerns over the Ododo administration’s use of state resources.
The group claimed that despite “receiving over ₦600 billion in federation allocations and other revenues in less than two years,” there is “scant evidence” of completed projects to show for it.
It also criticized the administration’s current plan to raise ₦50 billion via Sukuk bonds to build an international airport and market.
MEKSTA further claimed that the administration prioritises a “costly vanity project” over fundamental needs like electricity, water, and healthcare, calling it a “misalignment between public borrowing and the public interest.”
The group further alleged that Ododo’s tenure is defined by protecting the interests of former Governor Yahaya Bello rather than serving the people of Kogi.
