The Iran Football Federation is currently working on the schedule for Team Melli’s warm-up matches, and the Super Eagles have been identified as a potential opponent.
According to the Tehran Times, the match is slated for March 2026 as the two nations finalise on the logistics and processing.
“The Football Federation of Iran is expected to officially announce Team Melli’s friendly match schedule soon as preparations ramp up for the World Cup,” the publication stated, adding that negotiations are also ongoing with Costa Rica.
Iran finds itself in Group G, where they will face Belgium, Egypt, and New Zealand. Meanwhile, the Super Eagles missed out on World Cup qualification after a narrow defeat to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the African playoffs.
