Students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), on Tuesday, staged a protest at the institution’s main gate in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, over the relocation of the Department of Anatomy and Physiology from the College of Health Sciences to the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences.
The aggrieved students, in their hundreds, chanted solidarity songs and carried placards rejecting the move, which they described as an assault on the integrity of medical education in the university.
“LAUTECH! Don’t separate Physiology from Medicine. Protect the integrity of Medical Sciences. Physiology belongs to Basic Medical Sciences. Our discipline is not experimental. LAUTECH! We won’t be silenced!” some of the protesters shouted.
An internal memo dated January 21, 2026, and signed by Olayinka O. Balogun, confirmed that the university’s Senate had approved the inter-faculty transfer.
“The Senate, at its meeting held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, considered and approved that the Department of Anatomy and Physiology should be moved out of the College of Health Sciences to the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences,” the memo stated.
It further noted that non-medical staff in the affected departments would also move to the new faculty “for ease of career progression.”
The memo, which was copied to the Vice Chancellor, added, “Consequent upon the approval of the Senate, I write to inform you that the Department of Anatomy and Physiology has been moved to the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences. Your support and cooperation in ensuring a smooth resolution of the matter are highly appreciated.”
However, the students vowed to sustain their protest until the management reversed the decision.
As of press time, efforts to reach the university’s Public Relations Officer, Lekan Fadeyi, for comment were unsuccessful.
