Nigeria Cricket Federation Unveils Plans For 7th National U-17 Championship

The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) is buzzing with anticipation as it announces the imminent seventh edition of its highly successful National Under-17 Cricket Championship. This flagship tournament, a cornerstone of youth development within Nigerian cricket, is set to kick off with intense zonal qualification rounds across the nation, promising to unearth the next generation of cricketing stars.

This year’s championship marks a significant step forward, embracing both boys’ and girls’ categories. This inclusive approach underscores the NCF’s commitment to fostering talent across all demographics, ensuring that promising young cricketers, regardless of gender, have a clear pathway to national representation. From each of Nigeria’s 36 states, the most promising players will be selected to form formidable zonal teams, setting the stage for a compelling display of skill and sportsmanship.

A remarkable 70% of current senior national team players and a staggering 100% of the national Under-19 squads are direct beneficiaries of this meticulously designed talent identification system. Simultaneously, the South East will witness cricketing action at Government College Owerri from the 18th to the 22nd of February.

The following week will see a flurry of activity across multiple zones. The North West will host its qualifications in Kaduna State from the 25th of February to the 1st of March, mirroring the schedule for the North East in Adamawa State. The South-South region will also hold its qualifiers during the same period, from the 25th of February to the 1st of March, in Edo State. Finally, the North Central zone will conclude the initial rounds, with matches scheduled from the 26th of February to the 1st of March at the iconic M.K.O Abiola Stadium in Abuja, promising a fitting end to the preliminary stages of what is expected to be a truly memorable tournament.
