Barely 48 hours to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections, the Action Alliance (AA) chairmanship candidate for Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Godson Nemieboka, has withdrawn from the race and endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Christopher Zakka.
Nemieboka announced his withdrawal in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, saying the decision followed extensive consultations with his running mate, Hon. Philip Babawa, campaign leaders and stakeholders across AMAC.
He described the move as strategic and aimed at consolidating political strength ahead of Saturday’s poll.
“As the Federal Capital Territory Area Council Chairmanship Election enters its decisive phase, leadership demands clarity of purpose and strategic foresight,” he said.
The former AA candidate stated that consultations revealed the need to avoid fragmentation of votes at a critical moment, noting that such division would not serve the long-term interests of residents.
According to him, his campaign structure and supporters would align with the APC candidate to ensure what he termed stability, continuity and accelerated development in AMAC.
“This decision is neither impulsive nor pressured. It is strategic,” Nemieboka said, adding that leadership requires not only the willingness to contest but also the wisdom to consolidate when necessary.
He called on members of his campaign organisation, the Action Alliance family and grassroots mobilisers to remain peaceful and committed as they work for the victory of the APC candidate in Saturday’s election.
Nemieboka expressed appreciation to his supporters for their loyalty and sacrifice throughout the campaign, assuring them that the political relationships built would continue to shape future leadership engagements in the council.
The development comes as political activities intensify across the FCT ahead of the February 21 Area Council elections.
