The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has swiftly dismissed widespread speculation in the social and online media regarding an alleged demand by Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, for a new contract that would see his monthly salary increase to a staggering £100,000 (approximately $130,000 USD).
Malian tactician Chelle currently earns £38,000 ($50,000 USD) per month from the NFF. However, his enhanced profile following Nigeria’s third-place finish at the recent 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, a performance that reportedly piqued the interest of French club Marseille, has fuelled intense conjecture about his future.
Reports circulating suggest that Chelle’s purported demands extend beyond a substantial pay rise to encompass his entire technical staff and personal assistant. Further alleged stipulations includes a private SUV with a dedicated chauffeur and security detail, a secure residence with a guaranteed 24-hour power supply, fully furnished office equipped with a projector for analytical purposes and reliable internet access and Business class flight tickets for himself and his wife, with economy class for his two children.
Chelle is also said to be seeking significantly greater autonomy. This reportedly includes the right to select international friendly matches and camping programmes, initiate youth development initiatives, and travel abroad to scout and engage with national team players. Domestically, he is alleged to desire the provision to attend local league matches to identify potential talent for the senior national team, as well as the U23, U20, and U17 squads.
When contacted for confirmation, Dr Ademola Olajire, the NFF’s Director of Communication, unequivocally denied any knowledge of such demands from Coach Chelle. “Sincerely, I am not aware,” he stated, firmly refuting the claims.
