The management of the Port Harcourt International Airport (PHIA) has announced an upward review of its car park and access gate charges, with the new tariff scheduled to take effect from March 1, 2026.

The development was conveyed in an internal memorandum dated February 12, 2026, and addressed to all Heads of Department. The memo directed relevant units to immediately commence public sensitisation, particularly targeting airport users and other stakeholders, to ensure smooth implementation of the new rates.

Under the revised tariff structure, private cars will now pay N500 for car park and access gate usage, while Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and Jeeps will be charged N1,000. Coaster buses are to pay N2,000. Vehicles parked overnight will attract a flat rate of N10,000.

In addition, trucks and container-laden vehicles with more than six tyres will be required to pay N3,000 at the access gate.

The management emphasized the need for proper awareness to minimise confusion and resistance, noting that the adjustment aligns with broader operational and infrastructural cost considerations.

The tariff review follows a recent nationwide announcement by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) regarding adjustments in service charges across airports in the country. The move, according to FAAN, is part of efforts to enhance service delivery, maintain airport infrastructure, and meet rising operational costs.

Industry observers say the increment may generate mixed reactions among airport users, particularly frequent travelers and transport operators, even as authorities insist the review is necessary for sustainable airport management.
