The management of the Yakubu Gowon University (formerly University of Abuja) has called on members of the public to assist in locating one of its students, Sadiya Usman, who has been declared missing since Tuesday, February 18, 2026.

Sadiya, a 100-level student of the Department of Accounting, reportedly left her residence at Kontagora Estate, Gwagwalada, Abuja, around 8:00 a.m. to sit for a Computer-Based Test (CBT) for the GST 111 course at the university’s main campus but has not been seen since then.

According to a report filed by her guardian, several attempts to reach her have failed, as her phone line has remained unreachable since her disappearance.

In a statement issued by Dr. Habib Yakoob, the Acting Director of Information and University Relations, the University confirmed that it has activated its internal safety protocols and was collaborating with relevant authorities to ensure all necessary measures were taken to locate Sadiya promptly and safely.

“The University has activated internal safety protocols and is working closely with relevant authorities to ensure that all necessary steps are taken to locate the student promptly and safely,” Dr. Yakoob stated.

He added that the University community was deeply concerned about the incident and remained committed to the welfare and security of all its students.

“The University community is deeply concerned about her safety and appeals for timely information that could assist in her safe return,” he added.

Members of the public with any information regarding her whereabouts were urged to contact the nearest police station or report to the University’s Directorate of Safety.
