The Nigeria Police Force has welcomed the court injunction which restrained Omoyele Sowore and Sahara Reporters from further publishing defamatory contents and other related matters deemed defamatory against the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

The Federal Capital Territory High Court held at Life Camp, Abuja before Justice J.O.E Adeyemi-Ajayi had on February 18 granted an interim injunction restraining Sowore and Sahara Reporters from publishing contents regarded as defamatory against Egbetokun.

According to the enrolled court order seen by our correspondent, the ruling followed an ex parte motion for interim injunction dated February 10, 2026 and filed on February 11 by the claimant/applicant through his counsel, Ayotunde Ogunleye.

The court granted the interim injunction and ordered that Sowore and Sahara Reporters  jointly and severally, including their privies, servants, agents or anyone acting through them, desist from publishing such statements on Sahara Reporters or any other media outfit against the Motion on Notice.

It also restrained them from publishing defamatory and derogatory statements on Sahara Reporters or any other media outfit against Mr. Victor Egbetokun and ACP Bukola Kuti.

The case was adjourned till April 14 for hearing of the motion on notice.

Reacting to the court order, the force spokesman, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin,

said, “This step had to be taken because the defendants over time had published a series of defamatory and derogatory claims based on fabricated falsehood against the person, office, immediate staff, members of the family of the Inspector General of Police, as well as the Nigeria Police Force.”
