Ruthless Alcaraz Wins Qatar Open Title In Under 50 Minutes

Carlos Alcaraz maintained his unbeaten start to 2026 with a commanding performance against Arthur Fils, winning the Qatar Open in Doha in just 50 minutes.

The Spanish top seed demonstrated his ruthlessness throughout the match, converting five of seven break points to secure a dominant 6-2, 6-1 victory over France’s Fils. This triumph marks the shortest completed match of Alcaraz’s career and his 12th win of the season, adding to his Australian Open success last month and bringing his career title tally to 26.

“I came into this year hungry for more,” said the 22-year-old Alcaraz, reflecting on his previous year’s quarter-final exit at the Qatar Open. “It’s been a really strong start to the year. It wasn’t easy; I had to stay mentally strong with my team. I’m just playing great tennis, and I’m really happy about this week. This trophy means a lot to me.”

Alcaraz’s victory over the unseeded Fils comes just 20 days after he made history as the youngest man to achieve the Career Grand Slam in Melbourne.

The seven-time Grand Slam champion set the pace from the outset, breaking Fils’ serve in the very first game and racing through the first set in just 28 minutes. His dominance continued into the second set, where a double break to take a 3-0 lead led to Fils becoming visibly frustrated, culminating in him smashing his racquet.

Fils managed to get on the scoreboard in his next service game, eliciting cheers from the crowd, but it proved to be little more than a consolation, as Alcaraz’s command of the rallies allowed him to wrap up the second set in a mere 24 minutes.

The match saw Alcaraz fire 18 winners, compared to just three from Fils, while the Spaniard did not concede a single break point.

This victory in under 50 minutes surpasses last year’s shortest final, in which Norway’s Casper Ruud defeated France’s Ugo Humbert 6-2, 6-3 in 68 minutes at the Nordic Open in Stockholm.

World number 40 Fils, who spent nearly eight months sidelined last year due to a back injury, took the defeat in good spirits, paying tribute to Alcaraz: “You played incredibly well; you’re a fantastic champion. It’s a joke,” he said. “Congratulations to your team and to you; you did an unbelievable job.”
