The Local Organising Committee for the 3rd National Para Games has completed its thorough inspection of venues, reporting positive ratings for the majority of facilities set to host the event from 26th March to 3rd April 2026 at the MKO Abiola National Stadium Complex.
The comprehensive evaluation covered fifteen sports facilities across the stadium complex and other designated sites within the Federal Capital Territory. Sports such as Amputee Football, Para Athletics, Para Badminton, Para Swimming, Wheelchair Basketball, and Wheelchair Tennis were among those whose venues were scrutinised for readiness and adherence to international standards.
While most facilities have been confirmed suitable and prepared for the Games, the inspection report highlighted a few areas requiring minor technical adjustments and environmental improvements before the commencement of competition.
Specifically, the Indoor Basketball Hall, earmarked for Wheelchair Basketball, was deemed ready, though minor enhancements to court marking visibility and lighting were recommended. Similarly, the Swimming Pool facility received clearance but with suggestions for lane rope adjustments, improved changing room cleanliness, and the provision of canopies and plastic seating.
Conversely, venues including the Velodrome for Para Karate, the Gymnasium Hall for Para Badminton, and the Tennis Courts for Wheelchair Tennis were all certified as fully prepared for competition.
The Organising Committee has affirmed its commitment to promptly addressing all observations raised during the inspection, ensuring a world-class competitive environment that prioritises safety, accessibility, and fairness for all participants.
The 3rd National Para Games underscores the Nigerian Federal Government’s dedication to promoting inclusivity, empowerment, and the growth of para sports nationwide. With the facilities largely confirmed ready and necessary remedial work in progress, Abuja is poised to deliver another triumphant edition of the Games, celebrating the resilience, talent, and excellence of athletes from across the country.
