The family of Anthony Joshua has opened up about the emotional toll of his career, stating they will stand by the former heavyweight champion unconditionally—whether he decides to fight again or walk away from the sport.

Concerns over Joshua’s future in boxing have intensified following a devastating car accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of his strength coach, Sina Ghami, and personal trainer, Latif “Latz” Ayodele. The athlete was briefly hospitalized after the crash but has since been discharged.

Speaking to Punch the boxer’s uncle, Ademola Joshua, revealed that while the family feels the immense emotional weight of watching him compete, they will respect whatever path he chooses.

“Whatever he has decided within himself, we will support him fully,” Ademola stated. “Each time he’s knocked down, it is just like the heart is coming out of our chest. All these emotional feelings whenever he’s fighting, it’s too much trauma for us also.”

Despite the family’s anxiety, Ademola emphasised that the ultimate decision rests solely with Joshua.

He added that the family takes immense pride in his accomplishments and will offer their full backing, emphasizing that the choice to “lace up his gloves again” is entirely at his discretion.
