Six people, including a child, have lost their lives in a fatal auto accident at the Keffi corridor of the Keffi-Akwanga Expressway in Nasarawa State.
The accident, which happened at about 10:20 am yesterday, also left three people with varying degrees of injuries.
LEADERSHIP Friday gathered that the accident occurred when the driver of a Toyota Sienna Space Bus, with registration number ABJ 367 FJ crashed into another vehicle, killing six passengers.
Witnesses said officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were pursuing the Toyota Sienna driver who evaded inspection when the accident occurred.
However, the FRSC sector commander in the state, Mr Yahaya Sabo-Adikwu, attributed the accident to the recklessness from the Sienna bus driver.
“An accident really happened between Keffi-Akwanga Road and the time of the incident is about 10:20 am or so and the casualty figure is six people died and three injured.
“The accident was caused by recklessness of one of the drivers who refused to stop for our patrol team.
“Instead of our patrol team to exercise some level of caution, they decided to see whether they could make him to forcefully stop. In the process of trying to avoid arrest he drove away and unfortunately crashed into another vehicle,” he said.
Meanwhile, the development is causing tension in Keffi as angry youths set bonfires on both sides of the dual carriageway, resulting in gridlock.
