Ahead of the 2027 general election, Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared that he is not going anywhere, as he remains a committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor who spoke during the Omituntun Ramadan Lecture, which brought together top political functionaries, religious leaders, technocrats and other stakeholders from across the state, said competence and loyalty to the people of Oyo State will determine who succeeds him in office.
Makinde dismissed speculations about personal allegiance playing any role in the state’s future leadership.
In a moment that drew loud reactions from the crowd, a group of women began chanting, “Wherever you go, we will follow.”
Responding promptly, the governor reassured supporters of his political stance, saying he is, “going nowhere” and that he remains a committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
His response was met with applause, reinforcing his loyalty to the party under which he was elected.
Makinde stated firmly that the individual who will take over from him must demonstrate proven capacity and unwavering commitment to the development of Oyo State.
According to him, loyalty must not be to his person but to the people, emphasizing that governance is about service and continuity of good policies for the collective good.
The Ramadan lecture served not only as a spiritual exercise but also as a platform for reflection on leadership, unity, and the future of Oyo State.
The event featured prayers, goodwill messages, and admonitions on good governance and peaceful coexistence.
The highlight of the gathering was the governor’s announcement of a special gift to the Ramadan lecturer, Amin Olorun in appreciation of his contributions and impactful lecture. Governor Makinde presented him with a brand-new Jeep for his private use, a gesture that drew admiration and commendation from attendees.
