MyCityApp Nigeria, in collaboration with MTN Nigeria and the Federal Ministry of

Art, Culture and the Creative Economy has launched a new digital city platform, MyCityApp, aimed at boosting tourism, expanding access to government services and connecting businesses more directly with residents.

The application, unveiled in Abuja on Thursday, is designed as a smart urban companion. It integrates city services, event listings, payment systems, transport information, hospitality offerings, and small-business visibility into a single digital interface.

Head of Marketing, MyCityApp Nigeria, Adedotun Oyinloye, said residents in participating cities will be able to access real-time traffic intelligence and public transport updates, make government service payments, discover local businesses and entertainment options, and connect directly to emergency services.

Minister of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, described the initiative as a significant step forward for Nigeria’s tourism and creative industries.

According to her, the launch goes beyond introducing a mobile application. She said it represents a broader vision that brings together technology and tourism, empowers businesses, and enables citizens to access services seamlessly.

Musawa noted that the platform aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly the administration’s focus on diversifying the economy through culture, tourism and the creative sector.

She explained that tourism in the digital age is driven by experience, safety and accessibility. Visitors and residents, she said, increasingly rely on their smartphones for real-time information about destinations and services.

“When people arrive in any city, the first thing they reach for is their phone,” she said in Abuja yesterday, adding that the platform turns that device into a gateway for discovering businesses, festivals, restaurants, transport options and essential services.

According to Oyinloye, the platform will also provide comprehensive directories of government offices and embassies, along with dedicated sections for housing and job listings to support economic participation nationwide.

The App is designed to deliver a next-generation suite of urban services to cities across Nigeria’s 36 states. Oyinloye said the rollout marks a significant milestone in expanding smart city infrastructure beyond a single state into a broader national ecosystem of digital urban services.

CEO of MTN Nigeria, Karl Toriola, delivered a keynote address outlining the strategic importance of expanding digital infrastructure to power smarter, safer, and more connected cities across the country, positioning the initiative as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s evolving digital ecosystem.

Toriola who was represented by the general manager, regional operations, North West, ThankGod Otorkpa, said the app reflects MTN’s commitment to powering Nigeria’s digital economy.

He said the digital platform is supported by a secure enterprise-grade infrastructure designed to accommodate millions of users with 99.9 per cent reliability.

MTN’s General Manager, Architecture and Engineering, Information Technology, Bukola Ajayi, said the application is built on a scalable cloud-based architecture with end-to-end encryption and compliance protocols.

She outlined key features of the platform, including event discovery, emergency information, visibility for small and medium enterprises, civic engagement tools and policy dashboards to support urban planning.

Ajayi added that the success of the platform would be assessed not only by download numbers but by its impact on economic inclusion, job creation and improved service delivery.

The national launch event convened senior government officials, policymakers, security leadership, technology executives, and key stakeholders from the creative sector, underscoring the strong cross-sector collaboration driving the initiative.
