Orji Uzor Kalu has cautioned critics of the recently assented Electoral Act 2026, urging them to refrain from what he described as “misleading narratives” capable of creating unnecessary tension in the political space.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, he said President Tinubu had already given full assent to the amended Electoral Act, making ongoing public disputes and speculation unwarranted.
He stressed that political actors should channel their energy into understanding the provisions of the law rather than fueling controversy.
According to him, the amendments were designed to strengthen transparency, improve election management, and enhance public confidence in future polls. He argued that constant public criticism without proper knowledge of the contents of the Act only undermines democratic progress.
Kalu also urged stakeholders, including civil society groups, political parties, and commentators, to engage constructively, adding that democratic reforms require collaboration, not confrontation.
He insisted that with the President’s assent already secured, attention should now shift to implementation, voter education, and institutional readiness ahead of the 2026 electoral cycle.
