Four persons have lost their lives in a stampede at Kofar Guga Quarters in Katsina State.

The tragic incident occurred on February 26, 2026, at about 9:00 p.m., when a crowd gathered at the residence of a philanthropist, Alhaji Dahiru Usman Sarki, for the distribution of annual Ramadan alms.

In statement, the spokesman of the Katsina State Police Command,  Sadiq Abubakar Aliyu,  said it received  a distress call  at the Central Police Station that the gathering had turned chaotic, resulting in a stampede.

He added that police operatives were deployed to the scene to restore order and assist in rescue efforts.

The injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, but four of them later died from injuries sustained during the incident.

The commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished those receiving treatment a speedy recovery.

He also ordered a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
