As the world marks the International Women’s Day 2026 with the theme “Give To Gain,” the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Women Affairs, Ipalibo Harry Banigo, has emphasised the importance of generosity, service and collective support in uplifting women, youths and vulnerable groups in society.

Banigo, who represents Rivers West Senatorial District, said the global campaign for 2026 promotes a culture of generosity and collaboration, stressing that societies become stronger and more inclusive when individuals, organisations and communities give through mentorship, knowledge, opportunities, resources and time.

The former Deputy Governor of Rivers State noted that her long-standing commitment to philanthropy reflects the spirit of the theme.

She recalled that in 2008 she established the CAWOOD Brown Foundation in Port Harcourt to provide support and opportunities for women, youths and vulnerable persons.

According to Banigo, the foundation has over the years championed programmes aimed at empowering individuals with sustainable livelihood opportunities and improving their quality of life.

She urged Nigerians, organisations and community leaders to embrace the “Give To Gain” philosophy, stressing that intentional investments in the wellbeing and development of others would lead to broader social and economic progress.

Banigo also encouraged citizens to reflect on the message of the year’s theme and consider how they can contribute to empowering others and creating pathways for shared prosperity.
