The Bala Wunti Support Organisation (BWSO) has joined the global community to celebrate women on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

It is a day dedicated to recognising the invaluable contributions of women to society and renewing commitment to advancing gender equity, dignity and empowerment.

In a statement issued on the occasion by the chief communication officer of BWSO, Abubakar Al-Sadique, the organisation highlighted the enduring commitment of Dr Bala Wunti to the advancement and well-being of women in Bauchi State.

According to the statement, Dr Wunti has, over the years, consistently championed initiatives aimed at supporting women — particularly widows, divorcees, young girls, and other vulnerable groups—through humanitarian assistance, economic empowerment programmes, and community-based interventions designed to improve livelihoods and restore dignity.

The statement noted that recent interventions through BWSO, including the distribution of food items to vulnerable women during the Ramadan period, and IDPs from Alkaleri hosted in Kashere, Gombe State, reflects Dr Wunti’s firm belief that empowering women remains fundamental to building strong families, stable communities, and a prosperous society.

“As someone who has his eyes on the next fifty years of development in Bauchi State, Dr. Bala Wunti has articulated a series of forward-looking programmes designed to uplift the standard of life of women across the state,” the statement said.

It explained that these programmes are focused on expanding women’s access to education, strengthening their economic empowerment opportunities, promoting entrepreneurship, and ensuring that women are given equal opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of Bauchi State while bringing out their full potential.

The statement further emphasised that sustainable development in Bauchi State cannot be achieved without the active participation and empowerment of women.

“Women remain central to the progress of our communities. When women are empowered with opportunities, skills, and support, families thrive, communities grow stronger, and the future becomes more secure for everyone,” the statement added.

BWSO therefore called on community leaders, policymakers, and development partners to continue working collectively to create an enabling environment where women can flourish, participate fully in governance and economic life, and realise their aspirations.

The organisation also saluted the resilience, courage, and contributions of women across Bauchi State and Nigeria, whose daily sacrifices continue to shape a better future for generations to come.
