The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has unveiled the committee and timetable for its 2026 national convention, scheduled to hold in Abuja.

The Chairman of the 2026 Independent Convention Planning Committee, Omotayo Oladele Samuel, disclosed this during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.

Samuel said the committee was inaugurated by the NANS President, Olushola Oladoja, on March 8, 2026, in line with the provisions of the association’s constitution.

He explained that the inauguration empowered the committee to coordinate all activities leading to the successful conduct of the 2026 national convention.

According to him, the committee has approved the creation of several sub-committees to ensure effective coordination and smooth execution of the convention activities.

“The sub-committees were carefully constituted to allow proper delegation of responsibilities and ensure efficiency in the planning process,” he said.

Samuel listed the sub-committees to include Screening and Verification, Screening Appeal, Venue and Protocol, Welfare and Entertainment, Accommodation, Security, Stakeholders Engagement, Medical and Emergency, Media and Publicity, Fund Raising and Finance, Election Management, Transport and Logistics, Contact and Mobilisation, as well as Accreditation.

He added that each sub-committee has at least 10 members drawn from the six geopolitical zones of the country to guarantee inclusiveness and balanced participation.

The committee chairman also said disciplinary measures had been put in place for any member found wanting in the discharge of their duties.

He further released the timetable for the convention process, stating that pre-convention activities commenced on March 8 and will run until March 30, 2026.

According to the schedule, nomination and accreditation forms will be available for collection from April 1 to April 7, and completed forms will be submitted between April 8 and April 10.

He said physical screening of aspirants would hold from April 12 to April 19, while verification of studentship by the Screening and Verification Committee would run from April 20 to April 27.

Samuel added that the screening results would be released on April 29, while the appeal window would open from May 1 to May 7, with final appeal results to be announced on May 9.

He said the main convention activities would hold from May 22 to May 25 at the Old Parade Ground.

According to him, delegates are expected to arrive on May 20, while a peace accord with the Department of State Services will be held on May 21.

He added that the presidential debate will take place later the same day, while accreditation of delegates will be conducted on May 23, ahead of the election scheduled for May 24.

Samuel urged aspirants to comply with all requirements and timelines, warning that late submission of forms would lead to automatic disqualification.

He also clarified that aspirants’ intent forms were free and should not attract any payment.
