Dr. Christian Emeruwa, the Head of Safety and Security at the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF), has expressed his profound gratitude following his nomination for a Sportsville Special Recognition Award.
Dr. Emeruwa was named in the Achiever’s Category, with the list of nominees released on Monday by the organisers in Lagos.
In a message to the organisers, Dr. Emeruwa described the recognition as a “great honour” and a testament to the collective efforts of professionals dedicated to bolstering safety and security in football across Africa.
“I acknowledge with sincere appreciation my nomination for the Sportsville Special Recognition Award 2026. I am truly honoured and humbled by this recognition,” Dr. Emeruwa stated.
He further commended the organisers for their commitment to celebrating individuals and institutions contributing to sports development in Nigeria, highlighting that platforms like Sportsville help to shine a light on crucial, yet sometimes overlooked, aspects of sports administration.
Dr. Emeruwa emphasised that the recognition extends beyond personal achievement, underscoring the vital work being undertaken by numerous stakeholders to enhance safety standards at football venues throughout Nigeria and the wider African continent.
“It is gratifying to know that the collective efforts of my colleagues and I towards improving safety and security standards in football across Nigeria and Africa are being noticed and valued,” he added.
The Sportsville Special Recognition Award is an annual accolade presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to sports development, administration, and governance within Nigeria and internationally. The 2026 ceremony, which will be chaired by Dr. Larry Izamoje, is scheduled for March 28th in Lagos.
