The Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) has rusticated 20 students for engaging in various forms of examination malpractice.
The decision was approved by the senate of the university during its 138th Regular Meeting held on Wednesday at the Twin-Theatre of the institution’s main campus in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State.
According to a statement issued by the director of Information and protocol of the university, Nasiru M. Abdul, the rustication takes effect from the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic session.
The statement said the decision followed the consideration and adoption of the report of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee which found the affected students guilty of committing examination misconduct.
Chairman of the senate and vice chancellor of the university, Mohammed Khalid Othman, said the action was taken in line with Section 13.3, subsection 13.3c of the institution’s policy on examination irregularity and academic misconduct.
Othman commended members of the disciplinary committee for their commitment to upholding the university’s examination regulations and for ensuring fairness and due process during the investigation.
He noted that the decision was intended to send a strong message to students to strictly adhere to the institution’s rules guiding examination conduct.
According to him, the sanction would also serve as a deterrent to others who might consider violating the university’s academic integrity policies.
The university added that all the affected students were given the opportunity to appear before the committee to defend themselves before the final decision was taken.
