The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed claims that its State Executive Committee has been dissolved, describing the development as misleading and an attempt to create confusion within the party.
The party leadership said a press release circulating in some quarters alleging that the National Caretaker Working Committee of the PDP (NCWC) had dissolved the Ondo State executive did not emanate from any recognised channel of communication within the party.
In the press statement signed by the state chairman, Dupe Aisida, and the state secretary, Oluseye Olujimi, the party insisted that the Ondo State Executive Committee remains intact, duly constituted and fully operational.
The statement reads in part, “The said publication did not emanate from any properly communicated channel to the Ondo State leadership of the party, nor was there any formal notification served on the State Executive Committee through the constitutionally recognised channels of the party.
”The State Executive Committee clearly, unequivocally, and without any ambiguity wish to state that the Ondo State Executive Committee remains intact, duly constituted, and fully operational.”
Addressing journalists on the issue in Akure, the state capital, Aisida further dismissed the purported caretaker committee said to have replaced the executive, arguing that many of the individuals listed were either unaware of the development or had distanced themselves from it.
According to him, one of the persons reportedly named in the committee had publicly denied joining the group, insisting he was neither aware of his nomination nor willing to serve in such capacity.
The chairman explained that out of the names circulated, the party leadership could only identify a handful, adding that several of the individuals were not known to the party’s structure in the state.
”Nobody among our state executives can identify most of those people on that list, so what that is showing us is that most of them might not even be members of our party, or if they are members of our party obviously they are not active members of the party. We don’t know where most of them came from who are now claiming to be members of the caretaker committee,” he said.
The chairman described the alleged move to dissolve the state executive as a “political coup”. He claimed that some individuals were attempting to destabilise the party after failing to organise ward and local government congresses in the state.
He maintained that the PDP leadership in Ondo State was focused on strengthening the party and mobilising members through its ongoing digital membership registration in line with provisions of the Electoral Act ahead of future primaries.
The party urged members across the 18 local government areas and 203 wards in the state to remain calm and loyal, assuring that the PDP remained united and committed to providing credible leadership and a viable alternative for the people of Ondo State.
