The city of Taitung, Taiwan, has issued a call for global artistes to participate in the 2026 edition of its Taitung Craft Artist-in-Residence program.
The residency grew from the concept of harmonising crafts with nature, “Craft Harmonises with Mountains and Seas’, which began with ‘Twelve Love Poems for Taitung Craft’.
This year, with the theme ‘Gentle Resistance’, the residency wants artistes to make a conscious decision to slow down and reconnect with the earth in a fast-paced digital age. It positions crafts as a medium for cultural and environmental dialogue.
Interested artistes must submit proposals from artistes who are inspired by Taitung’s rich cultural landscape and crafts tradition, and whose artworks “explore materials rooted in craft traditions, such as soil, pottery, wood, and woven fibres”.
The artistes get to spend 45 days, between June and September 2026, working with local studios in Taitung to explore the resilience of materials and the language of hands.
The call for residency opened on March 18 and will end on April 5.
