Nigeria-eligible goalkeeper Owen Goodman has made a significant stride in his international career, receiving a call-up from Canada as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 21-year-old shot-stopper, currently with Crystal Palace, is still eligible to represent Nigeria, Canada, or England. Despite previously favouring a future with the Super Eagles, frustrations over administrative issues appear to have influenced his recent decision.

Goodman had engaged with Nigerian football authorities, including NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, and reportedly received an invitation. However, a lack of proper logistical arrangements ultimately prevented his integration into the squad.

Having previously turned down Canada’s advances, the young goalkeeper has now reconsidered and could feature in their World Cup plans if he secures a place in the final squad. His potential inclusion would continue a trend of Nigerian-born talent representing Canada internationally.

In January 2026, Goodman returned to Crystal Palace after his loan at Huddersfield Town was cut short. This followed a valuable spell during the 2024–25 season with AFC Wimbledon. His patient approach to international options, coupled with his consistent development through England’s competitive loan system, underscores his professionalism and ambition. Football enthusiasts are optimistic that, at 21, he is already demonstrating the qualities of a reliable future international No. 1.
