Ahead of the 2023 general election, governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel has stressed the need for peace in the state and charged the new Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) leadership of the state to insulate the Christendom from politics.
He, therefore, reminded the newly elected CAN chairman, Bishop Christian Nyong and his executive, on the need to uphold their major role as partners in progress with government in order to positively shape the society.
The governor made this assertion during the Sunday Worship Service held at the Latter House Chapel, Government House, Uyo, the state capital.
Governor Emmanuel who acknowledged the role of the Christian leaders in repositioning the society, underscored the importance of faithfulness as a necessary virtue required of subordinates for leadership to succeed.
He congratulated Bishop Nyong, and advised him not to meddle into government affairs, noting that his emergence came through a free and fair election without interference from government.
“This is a Christian community, this is a Christian state, so CAN is also a partner with government to shape society in what God wants us to do, and to actually practice it.
“When you have the teaching on faithfulness, don’t forget that the subordinates need to be more faithful for leadership to function.
“When it comes to ecclesiastical functions I don’t interfere because it is delicate and important”, he stressed.
The governor promised the new leadership of CAN his support and emphasized the importance of the Christian community in the state as essential partners in his completion agenda, as his era inches towards its 2023 terminal point.
