Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said major infrastructure projects in the nation’s capital will be completed and handed over by May 2026 to mark the third anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking during an inspection tour of some ongoing projects in the FCT yesterday, the minister expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, particularly commending construction giant Julius Berger for its role in the remodelling of the Abuja City Gate.

Wike said the Court of Appeal Complex located in Daki-biyu is nearing completion and is scheduled for handover in time for the anniversary celebrations.

“Well, with the Court of Appeal Abuja Division, which is at Daki biyu, of course, it’s almost at a very final stage now. And that will be handed over to us very much so by May this year. And we are hoping that it will be part of the inauguration of the president in his third year anniversary,” Wike said.

The minister also provided updates on the construction of housing units for judicial officers, revealing that while some quarters are nearing completion, others will be finalized later in the year.

“Remember last time we had to go to the one at the Federal High Court, which was 10 duplexes. Today we are at the FCT High Court quarters, which has over 20 duplexes. And then we also went to the magistrate quarters, which are also duplexes,” he explained.

Addressing security concerns at the judges’ quarters, Wike noted that plans are underway to adjust the perimeter fencing to ensure that only authorised personnel reside within the facility.

“We have to move the wall of the industrial quarter from that area. And we believe, by the grace of God, this will be handed over also by May ending this year,” he added.

However, the minister disclosed that the quarters designated for the Chief Judge of the FCT, the President of the Court of Appeal, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, and the President of the Industrial Court will not be ready by May. “Those ones will not be completed by May, but will be completed by October this year,” he assured.

The highlight of the inspection was the ongoing remodeling of the Abuja City Gate, a project Wike revealed was inspired by the wife of the President, describing the project as a transformative effort designed to give the capital a distinct identity.

“This is also the path. Like I said last time, this was initiated by the wife of Mr. President. She said to us that we can’t have the border of the city like that. So we thank her for that kind of vision. And by the grace of God, we are almost actualising it for the inauguration during the third anniversary of this administration,” Wike stated.

He described the new City Gate as a modern recreational hub that will feature a water fountain representing the 36 states and the FCT.

“There will be a water fountain that will flood the 36 states and the FCT. And all kinds of activities. People can come, take pictures, or whatever it is. And that’s what really will change the landscape of this area.

“So by and large, I think we are meeting up to the time. We are happy with the quality of the job. The contractors are happy. Particularly this has been done by Julius Berger. So we are very happy,” he said.
