Kwankwaso, Atiku Meet In Abuja After Years Of Political Differences

After years of apparent political estrangement, former Kano State governor and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has met with leading opposition figure and former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

The meeting, which comes after a prolonged period of public avoidance, has fueled speculation about potential collaboration or strategic alignment ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming elections, signaling a possible shift in the opposition landscape.

Atiku disclosed this in a post shared on his verified Facebook page on Saturday evening, revealing that Kwankwaso paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja where they discussed the ‘state of the nation’.

“This evening, I received the former governor of Kano State and the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on a courtesy visit. We had a robust discussion on the state of the nation,” Atiku wrote.

While details of the closed-door meeting remainex undisclosed at press time, the development came amid ongoing political alignments and realignments, and consultations among key political stakeholders in the country ahead of the 2027 general election.

Both Atiku, who was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election, and Kwankwaso are influential figures in Nigeria’s political landscape, with significant followings across different regions.

Observers said the meeting may not be unconnected to broader efforts at coalition-building ahead of future political engagements to oust incumbent President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), although Kwankwaso’s camp had not issued any official statement besides Atiku’s social media post.
