The remains of the late founder and president of Uma Ukpai Evangelist Association, Dr. Uma Ukpai, has been laid to rest amidst encomiums from Christians across the country and the diaspora.
At the event at his home community Asaga Ohafia, Ohafia local government, Abia State governor, Dr Alex Otti, lauded him for his achivements in God’s vineyard and contributions to the development of the society.
Represented by his deputy, Engr Ikechukwu Emetu, he underscored the need for people to use their position to bring positive changes in society and to touch the lives of others as the late gospel preacher did.
In his sermon, the general superintendent of Assemblies of God Nigeria. the Rev Ukachi Amadi, explained that the gathering was less of a burial and more of a crusade which the late miracle worker was popularly known for.
Amadi maintained that from all indications, the late founder and president reigned like a king, yet he allowed himself to be used by God without compromising the scripture
Speaking on behalf of Asaga Development Union and Asaga Christian Association, the president general of the union, Chief Okpa Ibe, said Ukpai was a special seed God planted in the community.
According to the president general, through the late international gospel preacher’s exploits in God’s vineyard, the name of the community became global household name in Christianity.
In his prayer for the family, the national president of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Wale Oke, prayed for God’s protection over the members and sustenance of their father’s ministry and legacies.
Oke, who also asked God to raise from among them someone, who would carry the mantle, prayed for them to be celebrated at riped ages like they had celebrated their own father and grandfather at 80.
The first son of the family, Mr. Chidi Ukpai, said his late father was a minister, who could take any risk to propagate the gospel, recalling numerous near-death experiences he had during such times.
Ukpai Jr, who explained that he was born cripple, but was healed through prayers by his late father at two, said with him, he needed no one else to preach salvation through Christ to him.
