Ex-Presidential Spokesman Ngelale Celebrates Tinubu At 74

Former presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, has offered a rare insight into the leadership style of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as a master strategist and mentor whose approach to governance is defined by patience, timing, and calculated execution rather than impulsive decision-making.

In a statement posted on his verified Facebook account on Sunday to mark the President’s 74th birthday, Ngelale portrayed Tinubu as a “great teacher” whose influence extends far beyond the corridors of power, shaping the thinking and decision-making of those who have worked closely with him.

Drawing from his time as presidential spokesman and special envoy, Ngelale noted that Tinubu possesses an exceptional ability to understand people, their motivations, strengths, and limitations, and to deploy them effectively within the broader national development framework.

He likened the President’s leadership style to that of a gardener, carefully nurturing individuals and ideas to achieve long-term outcomes.

According to him, one of the most profound lessons he learned from the President was the importance of restraint and strategic timing in governance.

He explained that Tinubu taught him that not all problems should be solved immediately, as some require patience and a phased approach to reveal lasting solutions.

“The heart to solve a problem is not enough for a leader to possess,” Ngelale reflected, adding that effective leadership requires “accurate sequencing, timing, tailoring, and application of solutions” while considering the broader ecosystem in which such challenges exist.

He recalled his experience serving at a relatively young age, where he was entrusted with significant responsibilities, including acting as the voice of the President and representing Nigeria on critical global issues.

Despite the intensity of that period, he said many of Tinubu’s teachings have continued to unfold in meaning long after he left office.

Now an enterprise owner and father, Ngelale said he increasingly relies on the wisdom imparted to him during his time in government, describing it as enduring guidance for both leadership and personal life.

He further argued that Nigeria is fortunate to be led by a leader whose rise, in his view, was built on performance and merit rather than privilege, especially at a time when leadership deficits are evident in many parts of the world.

Ngelale also acknowledged other influential figures in his journey, including the late Raymond Dokpesi, John Momoh, and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, noting that each played a role in shaping his professional and political outlook.
