Renowned human rights lawyer and development expert, Rommy Mom, has confirmed his participation as a panellist at the forthcoming Papyrus Global Mayors Conference and Awards (PAGMACA) 2026, a premier Pan-African gathering focused on strengthening local governance and community development.
The highly anticipated event, themed “Strengthening Local Governance for Resilient, Inclusive, and Sustainable African Communities,” will convene distinguished speakers, award recipients and participants from over twenty countries across the African continent.
Dr Mom, who serves as President of Lawyers Alert, will speak on the critical topic, “Community Policing & Sustainable Partnerships.”
His participation is widely regarded as a significant addition to the conference, given his extensive experience in human rights advocacy, policy development, and legal empowerment.
Over the years, Mom has played a pivotal role in advancing community policing initiatives in Nigeria, fostering trust, cooperation, and structured engagement between communities and security agencies. His work has involved close collaboration with local and state governments, as well as national institutions such as the Police Service Commission, contributing to improved security frameworks in conflict-affected areas.
The organisers of the conference emphasised that Dr Mom’s selection was carefully considered due to his practical engagement at the grassroots level and his ability to bridge legal frameworks with real community security challenges. His track record in promoting rights-based approaches to policing and strengthening accountability mechanisms makes him uniquely positioned to lead conversations on sustainable partnerships in security governance.
Speaking on his confirmation, the managing director of The Papyrus Global and Project Initiator, Doofan Damsa-Justin, stated, “Dr Rommy Mom represents the kind of leadership and expertise Africa needs at this critical time. His work in community policing and human rights advocacy has demonstrated that sustainable security can only be achieved through trust, inclusion, and structured collaboration between citizens and institutions. We are confident that his contribution will shape meaningful conversations and practical outcomes at the conference.”
The event will also host over 30 mayors and local business executives from across Africa, alongside key government officials, including ministers responsible for foreign affairs, trade and investment, and intergovernmental relations. These stakeholders will engage in high-level discussions to strengthen governance systems and promote peace and stability across the continent.
