The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced a distinguished list of Team Nigeria Ambassadors ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, underlining its determination to ensure a strong and impactful outing at the global multi-sport event.

The list, approved by the Commission, features prominent figures spanning sports administration, athlete representation and corporate partnership. Among those appointed are Mallam Saleh Ahmadu, alongside respected stakeholders such as Dr Amos Adamu, Chief Patrick Ekeji, Alhassan Yakmut and Gbenga Elegbeleye.

These seasoned administrators, many of whom have previously served as Director-General of the NSC, bring a wealth of experience expected to benefit Nigeria’s preparations and overall performance at the Games.

The list also includes former elite athletes and key stakeholders such as Olympic gold medallist Daniel Igali, Blessing Oborodudu, Tajudeen Ogunbade, Khadijat Sulaiman and Victor Iroele. Also named are a representative of Premium Trust Bank and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Wale Adeniyi.

The appointments reflect a strategic effort by the NSC to blend administrative expertise, technical knowledge and athlete experience in strengthening Team Nigeria’s campaign.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place in Glasgow from 23 July to 2 August 2026, bringing together thousands of athletes from across the Commonwealth.

The Games will feature a streamlined programme of 10 sports, including athletics, swimming, boxing, cycling and gymnastics, with full integration of para-sports to promote inclusivity at the highest level of competition.

The unveiling of the ambassadors signals a renewed push by the NSC to enhance preparation, strengthen athlete support systems and elevate Nigeria’s presence on the global sporting stage.
