Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chief Yomi Otubela, proprietor of Lagooz Schools, emphasised that the festival was more than a mere competition. “The Lagooz Sports Festival transcends athletic rivalry,” he stated. “It is a celebration of strength, unity, discipline, and the enduring spirit of excellence that defines our school. Sports remain one of the most effective platforms for building character, nurturing teamwork, and instilling resilience in our young people.”
He further explained that education at Lagooz extends beyond the classroom: “We are committed to raising well-rounded individuals. We believe that true education must shape the body, sharpen the mind, and build strong character. This festival is a clear expression of that commitment.”
Addressing parents, Chief Otubela expressed his gratitude for their support. “I wish to extend my heartfelt appreciation to our dear parents for your unwavering support, trust, and partnership. Your encouragement plays a vital role in inspiring our students to aim higher and achieve more.”
Turning to the students, he said, “This is your moment to shine. Compete with passion, uphold discipline, and demonstrate true sportsmanship. Remember that while winning is commendable, giving your very best and playing fair is what truly defines greatness. As we commence this festival, I wish everyone a memorable, exciting, and injury-free experience.”
