Police Nab Landlord For Assaulting Tenant

For allegedly refusing to respond to his sexual advances, a randy landlord in Abak local government area of Akwa Ibom State has brutally assaulted his tenant, with multiple injuries to her head, legs and other sensitive parts, leading to her hospitalisation.

Angry acting first lady of the state, Mrs Helen Eno-Obareki, LEADERSHIP Friday learnt, had rescued the victim, ordered her treatment and handed the landlord to the Gender – based Violence Department of the Ministry of Justice, to prosecute the case.

Consequently, the Police stormed the house along Hospital Road, Abak LGA, where the suspect was seized and taken to the Police headquarters, while awaiting his prosecution.

Confirming the arrest, the Police Spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, told journalists at state headquarters that the suspect would soon appear in court.

She said: “The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspect for alleged assault occasioning bodily harm following a reported domestic dispute at Hospital Road.

“On 31st March 2026, at about 6:45 p.m., one Rachael, female, aged 31 years, reported at the Police Station that her landlord, identified as Akong  Henry, male, allegedly assaulted her during an argument over a misunderstanding.

“Preliminary information indicates that in the course of the altercation, the suspect allegedly armed himself with a sharp object and attacked the victim. As a result of the assault, she sustained injuries to her head and left arm, with significant blood loss.

“Upon receipt of the report, Police operatives swiftly moved into action. The victim was immediately rushed to a medical facility, where she is currently receiving treatment, while the suspect was promptly arrested. The Command has commenced a thorough investigation into the incident.

Members of the public are advised to always seek peaceful means to resolve disputes and to report grievances to the appropriate authorities, rather than resorting to violence.

“The Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and urges residents to promptly report suspicious activities or threats to the nearest police station.”
