Yusuf Buhari, son of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has formally declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general election.

Yusuf, who holds the traditional title of Talban Daura, made his ambition known in a letter personally signed by him, dated April 3, 2026, and sighted by LEADERSHIP.

The letter, titled “Expression of Interest to Contest for the Seat of House of Representatives Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency,” outlined his plan to run under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“With all respect, I am extremely delighted to write and inform you of my intention to contest for the seat of House of Representatives at the above-mentioned constituency (Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua), under the platform of APC,” he wrote.

“After wide consultations, I wish to contest for the seat of the House of Representatives, Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua, as my contribution to ensure a good and qualitative leadership.

“Your support will help my ambition to succeed, to bring infrastructural development as well as human support and development to the people of this constituency.

“While expecting your full support and encouragement, I wish you all the very best in all your undertakings.”

His declaration came barely a week after APC stakeholders in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State endorsed him as their preferred candidate for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency.

The endorsement was reached during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held at the Sandamu Local Government secretariat, attended by elected officials and political appointees across the constituency.

Speaking at the meeting, the council chairman, Usman Na-Lado, described the move as a collective decision by party stakeholders, noting that Yusuf Buhari’s candidacy was based on his perceived capacity and acceptance within the party.

Na-Lado also disclosed that the meeting reaffirmed support for President Bola Tinubu and Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda as the APC’s flag bearers for the 2027 presidential and governorship elections, respectively.

However, party sources indicated that the endorsement of Yusuf Buhari may have been influenced by the state leadership.

A source within the APC, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “Yusuf Buhari is the state governor’s anointed candidate,” suggesting backing from Governor Radda played a role in his emergence as the preferred aspirant.
