A caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State has opposed an alleged move by the party’s national leadership to bring in Governor Bala Mohammed, warning that such a step could undermine the party’s cohesion and electoral prospects.

The caucus cited the governor’s past criticisms of the policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, arguing that his comments had fueled division and acrimony within political circles.

Speaking on Tuesday night after a meeting in Abuja, the caucus chairman and senator representing Bauchi North, Sama’ila Dahuwa, said members unanimously rejected the proposed move.

“The caucus, after exhaustive deliberations, unequivocally rejects the move,” he stated.

The group expressed concern that Mohammed had consistently launched public attacks against the APC and President Tinubu, noting that he had neither retracted those statements nor made any formal move toward reconciliation.

“Till today, he has neither withdrawn such statements nor offered any public apology to our knowledge,” the caucus said.
It warned that bringing the governor into the APC under the current circumstances would be detrimental to the party’s unity, credibility, and electoral strength in Bauchi State.

“In view of the foregoing, the caucus firmly holds that his admission into the APC at this time will harm the party’s cohesion, credibility and electoral prospects,” the statement added.

The caucus further declared that it would resist any move capable of compromising the party’s stability and political fortunes, while also criticising the alleged lack of consultation with key stakeholders in Bauchi.

According to the group, sidelining party stakeholders in such a critical decision runs contrary to the principles of internal democracy and inclusiveness.

It said its position would be formally communicated to the APC national leadership, alongside a demand for strict adherence to due process and established party structures.

Senator Dahuwa, who represents Bauchi North, had previously served as Commissioner for Health under Governor Mohammed before resigning to contest the 2023 elections on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He later defected to the APC in 2025, citing internal crises within the PDP.

Meanwhile, indications have emerged that ahead of a possible defection from the PDP, both the APC and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have reportedly been making moves to court Governor Mohammed.
