The Ghana Football Association is closing in on appointing a new head coach for the Black Stars, with three experienced candidates emerging as frontrunners.
Reports indicate that former Real Madrid coach Carlos Queiroz, Euro 2016-winning manager Fernando Santos, and ex-Portugal international Paulo Bento are on the final shortlist.
The move follows the dismissal of Otto Addo after a run of disappointing results, including defeats to Austria and Germany.
Each candidate brings a wealth of international experience. Queiroz is renowned for his tactical discipline, having managed several national teams, while Santos boasts a proven record at the elite level. Bento, meanwhile, is respected for his structured, possession-based philosophy, honed during his tenure with South Korea.
With the World Cup fast approaching, the GFA is reportedly considering a short-term appointment to stabilise the team for the tournament, before pursuing a long-term managerial solution.
Hervé Renard, currently in charge of Saudi Arabia, is said to be highly regarded by key stakeholders and could emerge as a long-term option once his current contract expires.
The strategy signals a two-phase rebuilding plan: immediate competitiveness followed by a broader overhaul aimed at restoring Ghana’s stature in world football.
