West Ham United have lodged a formal complaint with FIFA over the delayed return of defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka from international duty with DR Congo national team.
The right-back missed West Ham’s FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Leeds United after remaining in the Democratic Republic of Congo to celebrate the nation’s historic World Cup qualification—its first since 1974.
According to reports, the club had arranged travel for Wan-Bissaka’s return to London, but he failed to board the scheduled flight. West Ham maintain they did not authorise his extended stay for post-qualification celebrations.
The 27-year-old, who joined from Manchester United in 2024, has been a key figure under manager Nuno EspÃrito Santo, contributing three assists in 22 Premier League appearances this season.
In his absence, Kyle Walker-Peters filled in at right-back. Wan-Bissaka is expected to return for the crucial league clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
With West Ham currently in the relegation zone—just one point behind Tottenham Hotspur—the outcome of the dispute could have significant implications for both the club and the country.
