Niger State commissioner for Health, Dr Murtala Muhammad, has outlined key priorities, including revamping infrastructure and strengthening partnerships to position the state as a future hub for medical tourism.
Bagana spoke at a news conference in Minna to mark World Health Day 2026 while citing ongoing efforts such as the development of the IBB University Teaching Hospital and plans to establish a medical school at Abdulkadir Kure University.
He stressed that health remains the bedrock of development, noting that no society can achieve meaningful progress without a functional and responsive healthcare system.
The commissioner disclosed that the state government was advancing reforms under its “New Niger Health Agenda,” which prioritizes inclusivity, partnership, and system wide improvements.
He added that Patient Information and Complaints Offices (PICO) were being strengthened across public health facilities to boost accountability and patient centered care.
Highlighting the state action plan to link with the global community to mark World Health Day 2026, Bagana, said the annual event has gone beyond celebration, to serve as a time to reflect on realities, renew commitments, and shape the future of healthcare delivery.
While saying there should be end to incessant strike by Resident Doctors , he observed that they were frontline responders, and the bridge between life and death .
