Zamfara State House of Assembly has suspended the chairmen of Kaura Namoda and Bukuyum local government areas, Hon. Mannir Mu’azu Haidara and Hon. Umar A. Faru, respectively, over alleged financial misconduct.

A statement signed by Bello Madaro Kurya, chief press secretary, Office of the Speaker, Zamfara State House of Assembly, said the suspension followed a probe into the 2025 financial activities of the 14 LGAs.

Kurya stated that “the Zamfara State House of Assembly, under the leadership of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, on Wednesday, 8th April 2026, held its plenary session No. 160 at the Legislative Chamber, marking a decisive step in strengthening transparency and accountability in local government administration across the state.

“During the sitting, the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs presented its report through the deputy speaker, Hon. Adamu Aliyu Gumm, who happens to be the vice chairman of the  committee.. The report centered on the ongoing investigation into the financial activities of the 14 local government areas for the 2025 fiscal yea,” he added.

Kurya maintained that “the Committee recommended the suspension of two Executive Chairmen, Hon. Mannir Mu’azu Haidara of Kaura Namoda Local Government Council and Hon. Umar A. Faru of Bukkuyum Local Government Council, for their deliberate refusal to honour invitations extended to them by the Committee.

“The invitations were issued to enable them to provide explanations regarding the expenditure of funds allocated to their respective councils.

“Following deliberations presided over by the Speaker, the House unanimously adopted the Committee’s recommendations and approved the immediate suspension of the two Chairmen pending the conclusion of the investigation. The affected officials have been directed to hand over the administration of their councils to their respective Vice Chairmen without delay.”

It said, “the House identified acts of disrespect to the legislative institution, as well as lack of transparency and accountability, as the primary infractions warranting the disciplinary action.
