Ademola Lookman has praised Atlético Madrid following their impressive 2-0 victory over Barcelona in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash.
Goals from Julián Álvarez and Alexander Sørloth handed Diego Simeone’s side a valuable advantage as they pursue a place in the semi-finals.
Speaking after the match, Lookman commended the team’s discipline and unity, particularly their ability to keep a clean sheet against Barcelona.
“It was a good result, especially not conceding here. It shows the work and togetherness within the squad,” he said.
The Nigerian winger also highlighted the importance of capitalising on key moments, including scoring after Barcelona were reduced to ten men, as well as the quality of Álvarez’s free-kick and Sørloth’s second-half finish.
Atlético, who have never lifted the Champions League trophy, previously reached the finals in 2014 and 2016, losing on both occasions to city rivals Real Madrid. They also eliminated Barcelona from the Copa del Rey semi-finals last month, underlining their recent dominance in this fixture.
