Defiant midfielder Nnorom Nmesoma has declared that rock-bottom Kun Khalifat FC will “fight to the last kick” to preserve their Nigeria Premier Football League status, insisting that a recent upset victory has reignited the squad’s survival instincts.
The Owerri-based side remains anchored at the foot of the NPFL table with a precarious 36 points from 33 matches. With only five games left in the campaign, conventional mathematics suggests doom is imminent. However, following their shocking 1-0 scalp of Nasarawa United, Nmesoma claims a new, unshakable optimism has taken hold in the dressing room.
Speaking passionately to the club’s official media channel, the midfielder rejected any suggestion that relegation is a foregone conclusion. He pointed to the team’s improved discipline and fighting spirit as evidence that a great escape is possible.
“As players, we are not looking at the table with fear—we are looking at it as a challenge,” Nmesoma said.
“The spirit in this camp is genuinely high. We have been on a good run, and that victory against Nasarawa United wasn’t luck. It was belief. So yes, the confidence is high.”
He acknowledged the immense pressure of the final five fixtures, where every point could mean the difference between top-flight survival and a drop into the lower divisions. But rather than shrink from the spotlight, Nmesoma insisted the squad will embrace the tension.
“We know that the stakes are enormous—especially going into these five remaining matches. There is no room for error. But that is exactly when a player shows his true character. Everyone is going to go into each game fully focused, fully confident, and ready to give absolutely everything.”
Kun Khalifat’s next test comes this weekend, as they host Warri Wolves at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.
With home support behind them, Nmesoma believes another three points would send a clear message to the rest of the league: the battle for survival is far from over.
