The Airport Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old former employee of Vovida Communications Limited over the alleged theft of company equipment valued at approximately N15 million.
The suspect, identified as George Ikpe, was apprehended on April 3 2026, by operatives of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Police Division following an intelligence-led investigation into the incident.
According to preliminary findings, the suspect allegedly gained unauthorised access to the premises of Vovida Communications Limited, located along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport axis in Lagos, and made away with critical IT equipment belonging to the firm.
A review of CCTV footage reportedly captured the suspect’s movements within the facility and played a key role in confirming his identity and aiding his arrest.
Items stolen include two custom-made Vovida Central Processing Units valued at N10,357,000 and a high-end printer worth N4,715,000, bringing the total value of the stolen items to N15,072,000.
Police authorities said that following the arrest, investigations led to the recovery of the stolen CPUs after the suspect reportedly made a disclosure. However, the printer had already been sold before his apprehension.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted to committing the offence, claiming it was an act of revenge following the termination of his employment with the company.
The Commissioner of Police, Airport Police Command, CP Ogunbode Olufunke, said the Command remains committed to ensuring that criminal elements have no safe haven within the airport and its environs.
She added that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, while urging members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies for swift response.
The Airport Police Command reaffirmed its resolve to protect lives and property and maintain a secure environment around the airport corridor.
