Star actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington has revealed that her role in the upcoming animated series, Secrets of the Multiverse, is a direct reflection of her life as a mother of two.
The actress, who leads the cast as the character “Iyabo,” described the role as a “nurturer” that anchors the emotional core of the story. Speaking on her involvement in the project, a spinoff of Blessing Amidu’s Lady Bukit and Motley Mopsters, Adesua noted that the transition to the character was seamless because she drew from her real-life experiences raising her two sons.
“I am a mom as well, as you all know. I have two boys,” she shared. “While I am mothering a girl in this series, it is much more taxing to mother a little boy. So, I wouldn’t say it was too far or too emotionally challenging for me.”
Adesua emphasised that her decision to join the production was driven by a desire to create high-quality, indigenous African content that her children could watch. She highlighted the importance of Nigerian-made animations that reflect familiar cultural dynamics, such as a mother calling a child by their full name to signal “fire on the mountain.”
The actress maintained that her career decisions remain guided by her faith and a commitment to projects that share values of empathy, discipline, and kindness with a global audience.
