The Ohanaeze Youths Ndigbo Youth Movement has commended the National Assembly for its recent vote of confidence on Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), security agencies, and the Federal Government, describing the move as a victory for hard work, transparency, and national interest.
The group’s reaction followed a resolution by the joint committee of the National Assembly on Petroleum Resources, which dismissed petitions seeking the decentralisation of pipeline surveillance contracts across oil-producing states.
At a pipeline security roundtable held in Abuja on Wednesday, lawmakers rejected the petitions after deliberations, maintaining that fragmenting surveillance contracts would weaken coordination and undermine accountability. The committee stressed that Nigeria’s economic stability depends on strengthening efficient systems rather than diluting them.
Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, also faulted the petitions, noting that the petitioners failed to honour multiple invitations to appear before the panel, thereby weakening their case.
In what the group described as a rare show of unity, over 300 lawmakers unanimously endorsed the vote of confidence on Tantita Security Services, reaffirming its role in pipeline surveillance and efforts to curb crude oil theft.
Reacting in a statement on Friday signed by its Acting National Secretary, Anderson Achili, the Ohanaeze Youths Movement said the endorsement marked a significant milestone in the fight against economic sabotage.
The group urged stakeholders to prioritise national interest, sustain collaboration, and resist actions capable of derailing progress in securing the country’s oil infrastructure.
According to the group, continued support for institutions and initiatives that deliver measurable results remains critical to safeguarding Nigeria’s economic future.
