The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for the filing of individual annual income tax returns to April 21, 2026.
In a statement, the agency commended taxpayers for their responsiveness, noting a significant increase in activity on its eTax platform following the earlier extension of the deadline to April 14.
The tax authority said the heightened traffic on the platform reflects renewed efforts by individuals across the state to meet their statutory obligations, prompting the need for further adjustment of the timeline.
“In view of this development, and to ensure that all taxpayers are provided with adequate opportunity to successfully complete their filings, LIRS hereby announces a further extension of the deadline, now set for April 21, 2026,” the statement read.
According to the agency, the additional window is intended to enhance taxpayer convenience while preserving the integrity and accuracy of submissions.
LIRS, however, stressed that the extension should be regarded as a final opportunity, urging taxpayers yet to comply to take advantage of the grace period.
The Executive Chairman of the Service, Ayodele Subair, reiterated that all filings must be completed electronically via the LIRS eTax platform, which remains the only approved channel for submission.
He emphasised that adherence to the directive is critical to ensuring seamless processing and improved tax administration in the state.
The latest extension follows an earlier directive issued on February 25, which required individual taxpayers in Lagos to file their annual returns for the 2026 year of assessment on or before March 31. The deadline was subsequently shifted to April 14 to provide additional time for compliance.
