Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara South have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office.
The Kwara South leaders said the endorsement was to enable him consolidate the structural reforms of his administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” which has already begun to yield measurable economic gains for Nigerians.
A retired director with the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Mr. Ibrahim Lawal, who read the resolution of stakeholders at the Kwara South APC Mega Rally convened in Ajase-Ipo, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, also passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The rally was organised in support of Tinubu’s re-election and the proposed shift of the governorship to Kwara North in 2027.
“We endorse the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 election. A second term for President Tinubu is necessary to consolidate the structural reforms of the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda,’ which have already begun to yield measurable economic and infrastructural gains,” he said.
In attendance at the rally were members of the State House of Assembly, local government chairmen from Kwara South, as well as leaders of the ruling party.
During the event, the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Ojo Oyebode, led a motion for the shift of gubernatorial power to the northern zone.
Reading the resolution of the southern leaders, Lawal called for a power shift to Kwara North, noting that the region has not produced a state governor in almost 27 years of the current democratic dispensation.
He explained that while the southern part of the state governed for eight years, the central zone has held power for nearly 20 years.
Lawal said the resolve of the state’s southern leaders for the governorship to rotate to the northern region was to ensure inclusion, equity, justice, and fairness among the three senatorial districts.
He added: “Since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999, the governorship of Kwara State has been dominated by Kwara Central, which has held the office for approximately 20 of the last 27 years.
“The three senatorial districts have shared power as follows: Kwara Central has produced three of the four democratically elected governors since 1999, including the late Mohammed Lawal ,1999–2003, Bukola Saraki ,2003–2011, and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq ,2019–present.
“Kwara South held the governorship for one full term of eight years, with Abdulfatah Ahmed (2011–2019), while Kwara North has not produced a governor in the state’s 27-year democratic history.”
While commending AbdulRazaq for the developmental strides recorded in the state in the last seven years, the Kwara South APC leaders reaffirmed their confidence in the governor and pledged continued support for the policies and programmes of his administration.
Others who spoke at the endorsement rally, including former local government chairmen of Oyun and Isin, Joshua Omokanye and Wasiu Bamidele, appreciated Governor AbdulRazaq for the development brought to their councils through people-oriented projects.
They also commended the governor’s leadership style in the APC and thanked President Tinubu for delivering on his Renewed Hope Agenda.
