Culture Vital Tool For Preserving History – Fintiri

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has described culture as a vital tool for preserving the history and identity of any society.

The governor made the remark during the 2026 Michika Annual Cultural Festival and the first anniversary of the Mbege Ka Michika, Prof Bulus Luka Gadiga, held yesterday at the Government Secondary School playground in Michika.

Governor Fintiri noted that the creation of the Michika Chiefdom reflects the state government’s commitment to strengthening traditional institutions as custodians of peace, unity and cultural heritage.

He stated that the newly created traditional rulers have so far demonstrated commendable character as no cases of misconduct have been reported against them.

The governor called on the people of Michika to continue supporting the traditional institution to promote unity, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence.

Fintiri also assured the people of government’s plan to improve security and reconnect Michika to the national grid to boost socio-economic development in the area.

In his remarks, the chairman of the occasion and chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (rtd), described culture as the soul of any people.

He stressed the need to preserve cultural values and uphold traditions in all aspects of life.

General Marwa also called for renewed community cooperation among the people of Michika to fast-track development, recalling the strong unity that existed in the area in the past.

He commended Governor Fintiri for executing developmental projects in Michika, particularly in the areas of road construction and electricity, and urged for more dividends of democracy for the people.

General Marwa added that the achievements recorded under the Fintiri administration would be remembered by the people of Adamawa State, especially those in Michika.

Also, the Mbege Ka Michika, Prof Bulus Luka Gadiga, appreciated Governor Fintiri for the creation of the Michika Chiefdom and other chiefdoms in the state.

He pledged the full support and cooperation of the traditional institution to the Fintiri administration for sustained development across Adamawa State.

Professor Gadiga noted that the infrastructural development witnessed in Michika in recent times cannot be overemphasized.

He assured that his leadership would continue to promote unity, peace, and mutual understanding among the people.

The royal father announced the conferment of the traditional title of Lakeka Michika on Governor Fintiri.

He explained that the title, which means Sword for Peace, was in recognition of the Governor’s relentless efforts in maintaining peace and security in the area.

Prof Gadiga also called on residents to avoid indiscriminate tree felling, warning against the dangers of deforestation and environmental degradation.

He disclosed that the Michika Chiefdom would initiate programmes to support education by sponsoring children to universities, as well as empower youths through skill acquisition, particularly in crafts.

In a vote of thanks, the chairman of Michika local government area, Dan Biyu Tumba, described Governor Fintiri as a beacon of hope for the people of Adamawa State.

The event attracted traditional title holders and dignitaries from within and outside the state, while colourful cultural displays added glamour to the celebration.
