Ekiti Police Arrest 5 Over Illicit Drug Possession

Police in Ekiti State have arrested five persons for being in possession of illicit drugs.

The police spokesperson who disclosed this to journalists on Sunday said the operation was in view of the ongoing clampdown on illicit drug dealers and drug abusers as well as other criminal elements across the state.

The move, he said, is aimed at flushing out criminals and for the residents to continue to enjoy prevailing peace in the state.

The suspected drug dealers and abusers were apprehended during raid operations conducted by police operatives from Ado Central Division during on some identified black spots at Atikankan and Okebola areas of Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Sunday Abutu, a Superintendent of Police identified the five arrested suspects as Jamiu Yekini, Oluseyi Pelumi, Balogun Seun, Babalola Afeez and Tobi Sunday.

The exhibits recovered from them according to Abutu are wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian Hemp, Tramadol, Colorado, some cash and other illicit drugs.

He said the suspects, during investigation, confessed to be illicit drug sellers and consumers.

Abutu said they will be charged to court immediately after investigation is concluded, while effort is underway to arrest other fleeing suspects.

Meanwhile, the state’s commissioner of police, Mr Michael Falade, has implored parents and guardians to warn their wards against engaging in illicit businesses rather, they should engage in meaningful and legal businesses, as the Command will be tough on all forms of illegal practices in the state.
