The special adviser on security matters to the Yobe State governor, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam ( rtd ) has clarified that the Nigerian Air component of Operation Hadin Kai Airstrike suggesting online by reports that it was carried out in Geidam in Yobe State was false.
He said rather the Air Component of the Joint Task Force, (North East) Operation HADIN KAI conducted an air strike mission on Jilli (a Boko Haram stronghold) of Gubio Local Government Area in Borno State, yesterday Saturday, 11th April 2025.
The SA on security to Governor Buni however, explained that civilians who were in the area for market activities were inadvertently affected during the operation.
“The attention of Yobe State Government has been drawn to online reports suggesting an attack on the people of Geidam Local Government Area. It has become necessary to set the records straight.
“The Air Component of the Joint Task Force, (North East) Operation HADIN KAI conducted an air strike mission on Jilli (a Boko Haram stronghold) of Gubio Local Government Area in Borno State, yesterday Saturday, 11th April 2025,” he said.
“However, some people from Geidam LGA bordering Gubio LGA in Borno State who went to the Jilli weekly market were affected. They have been evacuated to Geidam Specialist Hospital and are responding to treatment,” he added.
The statement noted that the military operation was conducted under Operation HADIN KAI, which coordinates counterinsurgency efforts in the North-East.
It further clarified the location of the operation and the status of the affected area.
“The Air Component of the Joint Task Force conducted the operation in Jilli village, a known Boko Haram stronghold in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State, while those affected were residents and traders who had moved across from nearby border communities in Geidam Local Government Area for weekly market activities,” he added.
He reiterated the government’s position on the incident and urged calm among residents.
He emphasized that Jilli, located within Gubio Local Government Area, remains a known insurgent enclave and continues to be part of ongoing security operations targeting Boko Haram elements in the region.
